I finally got to meet up with Chigs and we decided to go to LA. I'm not a big fan of LA. Mostly because I can't drive there. I have a problem with parallel parking. and one way streets. and unprotected left turns. So I do as much as I can to try and not drive out there. But yeah! Chigs was a good sport about my driving disorders and we checked out the city of angels together (thanks Chigs!). We did a couple of things, like eat cupcakes the size of snails (big man bakes), and hamburgers injected with nicotine and heaven (umami burge), but our photo op of the day with the abandoned LA zoo, located somewhere in some park in LA (did i mention i'm also directionally challenged? ......is 'directionally' even a word?).
Animals in captivity have it pretty bad. But they had it a lot worse in the early 1900s. It was really interesting and eerie at the same time. Like I could feel the angst of the spirits of past bears, walruses and moose (meese?) that were housed in these tiny tiny cages many years ago. My favorite part reading the the little scribbles that other people had left. A few I remember are:
"I am not a bear. Your salmon tactics are moot. Follow your own stream."
and
"Penguins are always formal."
and (on a more serious note)
"My body may be shackled but my mind wanders free."
yeah. it was cool.
anyway, here are the pictures!
oh, and you can check out chig's post here!
That's all folks!
